Tilt/Shift Toytown

April 24, 2010

I first came across Tilt/Shift phtotography a few weeks ago on Erik Spiekermann’s insightful Spiekerblog. He appears to have developed a bit of an obsession with it, transforming dreary winters day scenes of Berlin streets into immaculate Toytown maquettes. According to Adrian Chapman’s White Noise of Everyday Life blog “The lens of the camera is tilted and a large aperture is used to achieve a very shallow depth of field”. Of course desktop software (and now an iPhone app) make this possible without hundreds of pounds worth of lenses and SLR camera equipment. I’ll have a crack at it myself this week. Toytown Elephant and Castle – now there’s an idea.
