Graffiti Taxonomy de Paris

March 10, 2010

Thinking about our upcoming major project, for which we have to choose an element of London to focus upon, brought to mind Evan Roth’s award nominated Graffiti Taxonomy: Paris. I can’t claim to be a big fan of graffiti, but the project, which presents “a study depicting the stylistic diversity found in Parisian graffiti tags”, is a great example of an interesting idea, executed extremely well. There was an interactive version on the Cartier Foundation website which now seems to have vanished, having been superseded by a new feature on Japanese auteur film-maker “Beat” Takeshi Kitano. Shame! Still, Evan’s own site gives the gist, as well as also featuring former projects including the Bad Ass Motherfucker project, for which he attempted to manipulate Google until his own site became the number one result for searches of that phrase (he’s currently number two, not bad), and a new (also award winning) Eye Writer project. Bonus.
