The Bubble Project

January 21, 2010

The Bubble Project was set up to reclaim street-level advertising space for public free speech. Their site has a manifesto, which is a bit political, but also talks about having fun and imagination. You can download speech bubble templates from the site to print yourself, the idea being to paste them up on posters and billboards, ready for passers-by to fill-in their own comments. Most of the time this doesn’t extend far beyond “bollocks” or “fuck Bush”, but it’s a nice idea, and very inclusive. And because it’s web-based and very simple, the thing has gone global. There are local Facebook groups based in London, New York, Milan, even Macedonia. Members can also submit photos of bubblized posters in their home town, so the gallery has pics from all over.
